Course (Summer 2026)!
Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) will offer a free online
Japanese course for international students. We provide two different
learning styles to suit your preferences and schedule.
■ Course Features
Online Courses: Participate from anywhere in the world.
Two Learning Styles: Choose between the "Live Lesson Course," which
offers interactive synchronous classes, or the "On-Demand Course"
(with or without schooling sessions), which allows you to study at
your own pace.
Comprehensive Support: In the Live Lesson Course, instructors guide
your studies through twice-weekly live sessions. In the On-Demand
Course (with schooling), both instructors and specialized student
assistants provide dedicated support during the sessions to ensure
your progress.
■ Course Overview
1) Live Lesson Course
Course Period: Monday, August 3, 2026 – Thursday, September 24, 2026
Course Fee: Free (Students must purchase their own textbooks separately.)
Format: Online live lessons held twice a week.
Available Levels: Elementary 1 Elementary 2
2) On-Demand Course
Course Period: Monday, August 17, 2026 – Thursday, September 10, 2026
(Note: A separate orientation session will be held prior to the start date.)
Course Fee: Free
Format: Self-paced learning using on-demand materials developed by TUFS.*
Available Levels:
Elementary 1 Elementary 2 Intermediate 1 Intermediate 2
* "Self-study only" option is also available.
■ Eligibility
This program is for students who will be enrolled in (or are currently
attending) a degree program or a research student program at a
Japanese university/graduate school by late October 2026.
Note: Exchange students and privately-funded research students are not eligible.
