Diploma policies - Attainment targets -
Master’s program
“Comprehensive Earth Sciences”:
Students will acquire an understanding of the formation of global systems as the foundation of humankind’s existence on a global historic scale, and will master skills in academic overview and skills in the detection, analysis and resolution of issues as well as the ability to communicate those results domestically and internationally in order to present appropriate action proposals for problems threatening the future existence of humankind.
“Comprehensive Science of the Biological Environment”:
In order to pursue resolutions and methods of dealing with problems facing the existence of humankind based on issues of biodiversity, students will acquire the skills for the development of general science related to bioenvironments and life, and will be equipped with general problem detection, analysis and resolution skills to enable them to propose appropriate measures to deal with these kinds of issues.
“International Cooperation, Security & Safety”:
Students will acquire general problem detection, analysis and resolution skills with a future vision for the development of humankind within a just and peaceful world free from discrimination and flourishing with diverse cultures.
“Social Diversity & Coexistence”:
In order to envisage a future image of the coexistence of humanity, students will acquire a broad foundation of comprehensive knowledge, and through surveying focus regions and analyzing gathered data, will be able to correctly analyze various issues of social diversity and coexistence, and will acquire the ability to appropriately express the knowledge they have obtained.
“Language, Media & Communication”:
For the communication and mutual understanding of a future vision common to all humankind, students will acquire the ability to understand communication from a multifaceted viewpoint through scholarly clarification of processes of communication involving language and diverse media.
“Comprehensive East Asian & Japanese Studies”:
Building on studies and academic experiences at the undergraduate level, students will acquire a comprehensive view of the scholarly field and the ability to identify issues and problems. Furthermore, in order to propose models of a future image for humanity, students will lead comprehensive regional studies from the standpoint of East Asia including Japan, and will acquire the ability to communicate the results thereof both domestically and internationally.
Doctoral program
Comprehensive Earth Sciences
Attainment objectives:
A. Knowledge: In order to conduct field research appropriate to obtaining a doctoral degree, students will acquire an education in advanced earth sciences to an international standard.
B. Specialist abilities: In order to develop their specialization exponentially, students will acquire issue detection skills and advanced theoretical and analytical abilities in the specialist field.
C. Transferable skills: Applying their broad knowledge in earth sciences, students will acquire the ability to play a leading role in problem-solving related to the environment, disaster prevention, and resources. Students will also acquire the ability to publicize research results appropriately both domestically and internationally, and the ability to lead research in their respective fields internationally.
Comprehensive Science of the Biological Environment
Attainment objectives:
A. Knowledge: As well as acquiring knowledge of all fields of biology, environmental geography, and resource management, students will acquire a broad knowledge of related fields such as earth sciences and environmental policy, and will apply that knowledge to world-class research and practical activities.
B. Specialist abilities: Students will acquire advanced skills in genetic analysis, morphological comparison, and field work, and will apply these skills to world-class research and practical activities.
C. Transferable skills: Students will master abilities in biodiversity solutions at all levels of genetics, species, and ecosystems as well as in the safety and sustainable usage of ecosystem services therein.
International Cooperation, Security & Safety
Attainment objectives:
A. Knowledge: In order to conduct field research appropriate to obtaining a doctoral degree, students will acquire an advanced knowledge at an international level of the theory, methodology, and research results in the relevant fields of social sciences related to international cooperation, security & safety.
B. Specialist abilities: In order to survey and analyze the various problems related to international cooperation, security & safety, students will gather relevant materials and data, will also apply advanced specialist knowledge, and will be able to summarize their research clearly in multiple languages.
C. Transferable skills:
Transferable skills:
Students will be able to grasp the various problems facing global society from a comprehensive perspective, to provide explanations from a critical viewpoint and to communicate the research results proactively.
Social Diversity & Coexistence
Attainment objectives:
A. Knowledge: In order to conduct field research appropriate to obtaining a doctoral degree, students will acquire advanced and up-to-date knowledge in the concepts, theories, methodology, and research results of humanities and social sciences related to social diversity and coexistence.
B. Specialist abilities: Students will be able to produce unique perceptions on social diversity and coexistence through correct procedures of gathering materials and conducting analysis according to standard academic procedures.
C. Transferable skills: Students will acquire critical thinking skills and will understand the various issues of contemporary society through linking with other areas.
Language, media, and communication
Attainment objectives:
A. Knowledge: In order to conduct field research appropriate to obtaining a doctoral degree, students will acquire advanced and up-to-date knowledge in the concepts, theories, methodology, and research results in the field of language, media, and communications.
B. Specialist abilities: Building on a general understanding of communications, students will be able to develop methods to generate mutual understanding essential to social coexistence.
C. Transferable skills: Students will acquire the ability to understand critically evaluate the various problems of information transmission and communication within contemporary society through linking with other areas.
Comprehensive East Asian & Japanese Studies
Attainment objectives:
A. Knowledge: In order to conduct field research appropriate to obtaining a doctoral degree, students will acquire advanced knowledge to an international standard of the concepts, theories, methodology, and research results required in regional analysis.
B. Specialist abilities: Based on the natural environment and historical characteristics of various East Asian countries including Japan, students will acquire an advanced knowledge of the cultural dynamics that characterize each region and state.
C. Transferable skills: Students will acquire skills in appropriately publicizing research results as well as abilities to lead their respective fields of research internationally.
