Overview of the 2014 Project Inviting Research Teams

from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Kookmin University

 

From December 2014 to January 2015, led by Prof. Takanori Kitamura from the Japanese Studies Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the program invited Prof. Willy Lam from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Prof. Hyun Daesong from Kookmin University. The invitation of these professors included opportunities to hold lectures, seminars, and field research along the theme of "Asian Integration." The general details were as follows.

III. Program content

(1) Lectures: Modern East Asia International Theory (Dec. 2014-Jan. 2015)

    *Held as part of Future Asia Research I for the students of the Integrated-Interdisciplinary Program for Leading Future Asian Innovation.

(2) Field trip (Dec. 12, 2014)

We visited the Kitakyushu City Environment Bureau and the Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation's Yahata Plant following the theme of "Asian integration through environmental policies." The students of the Integrated-Interdisciplinary Program for Leading Future Asian Innovation and the students of ISGS participated.

(3) Seminar (Dec. 18, 2014)

We held the Advanced Global Training Project for Integrated Academic Education's first seminar, titled "Prospects of Regional Cooperation & Regional Order in Asia." It was an opportunity to review and verify differing perspectives on various issues in China, South Korea, and East Asia, and to reassess the future prospects for Asia (Japan included). The details of the reports were as follows:

Prof. Willy Lam: "Prospects for East Asian Regional Cooperation in the Areas of Finance, Trade and Climate Change"

Prof. Hyun Daesong: "East Asian Regional Order and Territorial Disputes"

Prof. Takanori Kitamura: "Future Prospects of East Regional Order"

    Associate Prof. Andrew Hall, Associate Prof. Chisako T. Masuo, Prof. Yasuhiro Matsui, and Associate Prof. Takeshi Onimaru gave comments and critiques of each report, while attendees asked questions and participants engaged in lively exchange.
