This meeting was planned to inform the research contents and results of the students who were selected to receive financial support for the research trip in academic year 2017. Nine students who are engaging in various avenues of research (Department of sociology:3, Language education:1, Literature:1, Biology:4) presented their research results.

This meeting was planned to inform the research contents and results of the students who were selected to receive financial support for the research trip in academic year 2017. Nine students who are engaging in various avenues of research (Department of sociology:3, Language education:1, Literature:1, Biology:4) presented their research results.

Third year doctoral student Xiaoyang Hao presented her research entitled “Absence of Justice: How Sexual Violence Was Dealt with in the Kuomintang Trials”. The purpose of this research was to clarify the legal treatment regarding sexual violence towards women during World War II. It was made clear that during the Kuomintang trials there were lower rates of guilty verdicts for sexual violence and prosecuted crimes did not result in convictions.

Second year doctoral student Yuzen Huang presented her research entitled “Reassessment of the Taxonomic Placement of Some Medinodexia Species”. The purpose of this research was to clarify the position of M. orinetalis and M. exigua among Tachinidae Medinodexia species which were recently recorded in Taiwan and Japan taxonomy. Up until now, samples have been collected for use in phylogenetic taxonomy in Taiwan.

First year doctoral student Khadijah Omar presented her research entitled “Japanese Language Courses at Malaysian Public Universities”. The purpose of this research was to clarify Japanese education in Malaysia. The reality of Japanese education in Malaysia has been revealed through the research of population movements of teachers and students of Japanese courses, and of teaching methods in six major universities in Malaysia.

Third year doctoral student Seán Hudson presented his research entitled “Studying Japanese Popular Cinema”. The research was a consideration of the factors that contributed to Japanese culture expanding in the world by analyzing the animation of the Studio Ghibli and Japanese horror movies from the 1990’s to 2000’s. It was revealed that Japanese modern and popular culture have the same world view and expression methods as Europe and the United States.

Second year doctoral student Yuslita Syafia presented her research entitled “How Ethnocentric Are Domestic and International Students in Java Island, Indonesia?” In this research, Indonesian students from three cities on the island of Java, as well as foreign students, were the subjects of research. He considered ethnocentrism in the multi-ethnic country of Indonesia and evaluated the qualitative and quantitative data that has been collected.

Second year doctoral student Takaaki Muraoka presented his research entitled “Cooperative project with Yomitan village Okinawa prefecture – reporting on the results of research about Okinawan history after the war.” The purpose of his research was to reconsider Okinawan History after the War from political science. The goal was to digitalize the pictures of Yomitan village in Okinawa and based on this research, there were six research thesis, three lectures. and nine media reports.

Second year master’s student Wu Yajiao presented her research entitled “The molecular phylogenetic analysis of Japanese Prismognathus”. The purpose of this research was to identify a strain of as yet uncategorized Japanese Prismognathus by using molecular phylogenetic analysis. Through the research it became clear that Yakushima subspecies Prismognathus was an independent species and that South Kyushu subspecies could not be distinguished from species that exist in central Kyushu.

Second year master’s student Xu Sihan presented the research entitled “The reality of overlapping administration regarding the reserves and affect of tourism management on residents – a case study of tourist areas at Jianmenguanzhen, China.” The purpose this research was to clarify the reality of nature reserves systems in China and the effect that tourism management has on residents. Setting tourist areas in Jianmenguanzhen had not only a positive and negative effect on residents.

Second year master’s student Wang Wei presented the research entitled “The molecular phylogenetic analysis and comparative morphological analysis of species of Dorcus Titanus.” The purpose of this research was to clarify a strain of population of Dorcus Titanus which exists in various places in China. Through morphological analysis of mandible of male Dorcus Titanus, it became clear that the Dorcus Titanus that exist in China can be divided into two genetic groups.

An award ceremony was held at the end of all the presentations, and the three best presentors - Takaaki Muraoka (The highest award), Seán Hudson (Excellence award) and Wang Wei (Excellence award) - were selected. They received award certificates and commemorative gifts.

We are inviting students to submit their research project and to apply for the financial support system for research trips in April (this year is already finished). We are expecting various applications next year as well.
